Fama Technologies 2025 Report: Workplace Misconduct Signals Surge 34% as Risk Shifts to Professional Networks
LOS ANGELES, CA — March 25, 2026 — Fama Technologies, the global leader in social media screening, released its 2025 State of Misconduct at Work report. The findings reveal online behavior in professional networks is posing significant workplace risk.
The 2025 report, which benchmarks nine major global sectors, found that 6.45% or 1 in 15 screenings surfaced misconduct risks, a 34% increase year-over-year. Top behavior risks include online harassment, intolerance, and sexually explicit misconduct that directly impact workplace safety, compliance, and brand reputation.
“Workplace misconduct rarely starts in the office anymore,” said Ben Mones, CEO and Founder of Fama Technologies. “Our 2025 data shows that online behaviors are posing real-world risks, and those risks are increasingly appearing on professional networks and are impacting employers. For HR and Talent Acquisition leaders, the challenge is to identify these risks early enough to protect your people, your workplace, and your bottom line.”
2025 Industry Benchmarks
The report underscores that misconduct risk is not uniform across sectors, providing a critical baseline for leadership teams to compare internal results against industry norms:
- Sector Highs: Media and Entertainment reported the highest misconduct rate (33.6%), followed by Technology (16.7%) and Consumer Services (15.4%).
- Key Behavioral Threats: Online Harassment and Trolling represent the largest share of flagged behavior (37.2%), followed by Intolerance (23.9%) and Sexually Explicit misconduct (17.8%).
Modernizing Risk Management for 2026
Fama’s research indicates that effectively managing employee risk in 2026 requires a proactive, lifecycle-based approach. The report outlines three strategic imperatives for HR leaders:
- Expand Screening Sources: Traditional background checks are not designed to catch online behavior risks. Screen for behavioral risks online where professional and public lives intersect.
- Move Beyond Pre-Employment: One-time screenings are not enough. Transition to periodic rescreening throughout the employee lifecycle to surface risks as they emerge.
- Prioritize Compliance: Utilize FCRA and EEOC-compliant third-party solutions to ensure data-driven, unbiased employment decisions.
